Welcome to the Chaplain’s Road!
In this journey, I will touch on sensitive issues when it comes to one’s personal spiritual walk. An area that is challenging but with a blessing in the end. When I visit a resident for the first time, in some cases he or she immediately tells me their denomination. I greet them with a smile and reply back with words like “that’s great!” or “I am glad you love to the Lord!” All in all, I need to respect their belief and understand that there is only one God. PTL!
When I make my 1N1 visits, I come to know their background first and hear their story. They love to share their story as it puts a smile on their face, and it helps me to be more open minded and understanding. Thus far, I have not had any challenges and if I ever do, I know God has this.
The Bible teaches that God created all mankind in His image, true believers, rather than divided groups. So as believers we need to take a step back and watch God at work as you will be blessed. Put God first, as noted in
Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God.”
When it comes to residents that have not been raised or affected by a specific denomination or having any faith in God, I would encourage he or she to come to devotions if they felt led, if at all.
Point-in-fact: Sometime back, during some weeks of devotion, there was a resident that had no interest in coming, but as weeks went by, this resident would stroll down the corridor to listen and still no interest. Weeks later, not long after that, they joined the group listening and singing.
Months later just before they passed, I was able to visit with them and share God’s word and watched their belief grow from no interest at all to a full understanding of what Jesus did for them. This resident had collected several song sheets from the many group devotions they attended and selected songs they wanted to have sung at their memorial service. As you can see, God is always at work. PTL!
Psalm 121:3-4
3 He will not let your foot slip he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
So, as we close, let’s take a moment to pause and read the most powerful promise of God’s love for us.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
